PARENT FACULTY CLUB

Dear CHS Family and Friends:

With the new year comes new driving and curfew laws affecting our teens. In an effort to keep everyone up to date, School SafetyOfficer John Caffrey, Juvenile Intervention Team Officer Matt Dunn and his “J Team” colleagues from Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department will join us at our February PFC meeting:

February 6 th
9:30 AM
CHS LIBRARY
(note location change)

Save the date: PFCs Spring Event, for adults only, is slated for the evening of Friday,April 21. The committee is planning a lively evening of Texas Hold’em, Bingo and BBQ. Watch for invitations to be mailed home and start practicing your poker face!

Donor Drive Update:Our total to date is over $70,000, thanks to the generosity of our CHS families. Your donations help the school by providing vital classroom materials and supplies. For example, the PFC has funded science lab materials, new computers for our counselors and the upcoming 10 th Grade trip to the Museum of Tolerance.

Thanks to our volunteers … Susan Sanett, Darlene Polidoro, and Mindy Hibler and Committee for turning our library into a beautiful Winter Wonderland for our PFC Teacher Holiday Luncheon.

Carolyn & Joann, PFC Co-Presidents.

Blood Drive – Chaparral Elementary School is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, February 16, 2006 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Contact Hayuta Cohen at (818) 591-1208, for an appointment. Click on this link for further information: Chaparral Blood Drive 02-06 .

Grad Nite - Hello Senior Students, Parents, and GRAD NITE Supporters! Before you know it, Graduation and GRAD NITE will be here. Each year our PFC puts on a tremendous grad night evening for our Seniors. The goal of the evening is to have a Safe, Sober and Secure celebration for our grads of 2006. A great amount of planning goes into GRAD NITE. We need your support to make this year's grad night event a success. Every senior family should have received a donation request form to raise money to hold this event. The goal is to raise $10,000. We feel that we can raise this money through a donation drive, rather than having several small fundraisers. Our donation drive is January 20 through February 10, 2006. Donations will pay for entertainment, grad night senior gifts, security, and all extra surprises. All donations of any amount would be appreciated - with the ultimate goal of receiving $100 per senior. Thank you, Lisa Moriarity and Deborah Ceizler, PFC GRAD NITE Chairs

Meetings – Monday, February 6 in the Library and Monday, March 13 at 9:30 AM in the Lecture hall.

PARTNERSHIP

For those of you who do not know, Calabasas High School is twinned with the school, The Gymnasia Herzilya, in Tel Aviv, Israel. The program has been ongoing since 2000 and is an amazing success. The Gymnasia Herzilya is a wonderful school and our students have been fortunate to become acquainted with the Gymnasia students as they have traveled here each year. This past winter break some of our students had the opportunity to visit their sister school. It was a wonderful experience for all, exploring the sights of Israel and getting to know the students at the Gymnasia. Calabasas High has a new delegation of Israeli students arriving in March and we are looking forward to hosting and sharing our city with them. The Partnership Club meets every Monday at lunch in room H214 with coordinator Patti Harris and is open to all students. Please encourage your student to join us for this very worthwhile project. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to know people their own age from another country. We are still looking for housing opportunities our students and their families to host a student from Israel during their visit.

CITY OF CALABASAS

School Area Traffic Safety – The provisional driver license law has changed effective January 1, 2006. If you have a current driver under age 18 or a teen who will be driving soon, please click on the following link which answers some commonly asked questions about the updated law: School Area Traffic Safety 02-06

COYOTE CLUB

The first phase of our tennis project has been completed. A new sidewalk and retaining wall have been added to our tennis courts. We are currently accepting bids for the second phase which includes bleachers and landscaping.

All coaches have submitted a wish list to the CHS athletic director, Larry Edwards. At our next Coyote Club meeting on January 30, we will prioritize the list and begin efforts to fundraise for these projects. We welcome all parent input on this matter.

Our February Coyote Club meeting will be held on February 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the school’s library.

If you are interested in serving on the Coyote Club board next year, please contact Angie Falk at fsuer81@aol.com.

MUSIC BOOSTERS

Our Winter Concerts were a huge success and we thank everyone involved in helping the concerts to run smoothly. World-renowned cellist Andrew Shulman will once again donate his time with a private performance on Sunday, April 30, 2006. Watch for upcoming details for this very special recital. Other important events to note are our Jazz Concert on February 16 and our Spring Concerts on March 1 and March 2, at 7:00 PM in the Theater. Don’t forget to save the dates for our Carnival the weekend of March 17, 18, and 19. Sign up for Escrip and earn money for your students and the music program without any cost to you! You can visit us on the web at www.CHSMusic.com.
